Prozac and Alcohol
It shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone to hear that mixing
alcohol with medication is a bad idea. Alcohol can have an effect on
the person and either increase the reaction the body has to the
medication, or slow it down. Either of these scenarios is not good. The
unpredictability of alcohol in your system mixing with medication can
have devastating effects. It is best to never mix the two.
Prozac and alcohol have this unpredictable mix. Alcohol can enhance
some of Prozac’s side effects, and seriously inhibit your judgment and
motor reflexes. It is important not to mix the two, and it can lead to
severe complications and even death. Alcohol can increase dizziness and
nausea in Prozac users – two side effects of Prozac. These two things
enhanced by alcohol can definitely impair your normal behavior and even
put you in danger. The problem with Prozac and alcohol mixed together
is it slows down your response time but also makes you unaware of the
effects it is having on you. Operating a motor vehicle and any other
kind of heavy machinery can have horrible consequences.
Both Prozac and alcohol are also addictive and can cause serious
emotional and mental problems with continued use. The damage both
theses drugs can do is make people dependent on the feeling Prozac and
alcohol can give you. It’s a separation from the rest of the world and
can actually force you further into depression. Though Prozac can help
people cope with clinically diagnosed depression, Prozac and alcohol
can actually send you further into depression. It creates an
unnecessary need for the drugs and can cause disassociation from the
rest of the world. It is very important to keep these two drugs
separate. If you are diagnosed with depression, and your doctor advises
you to start taking Prozac, any alcohol consumption during this time
can have disastrous effects.
